Additional Guidelines during Live Online Satsangs
Dear Friends,
OM!
We understand that some participants may not want to offer information about their name for personal reasons, and this would be fine. Our guidelines are, in fact, only an invitation to make this virtual meeting as less anonymous as possible. There will always be exceptions, and this is perfectly acceptable.
Swamiji will certainly understand if you prefer not to display your name. Please feel free not to do so.
We believe that a Satsang should not be anonymous because we are a spiritual family of brothers and sisters. People can freely come and go in an ashram or temple anonymously, indeed. But spiritual seekers must not attend a Satsang as occasional anonymous tourists. Sometimes people will virtually display a number as identification or a funny pseudonym. This makes the whole atmosphere a bit weird and superficial! A Satsang cannot be “public” as such, it is something very intimate. There is a transmission. In fact, there is also a registration procedure to be able to attend, and information is circulated through the Newsletter to which the applicants/friends have subscribed. Therefore, participants must have the integrity to appear naturally with their genuine name as the way they are known in society. This will not only reduce the difference between live online Satsang and face-to-face Satsang, but also convey a sense of sangha or spiritual family.
In addition, having all participants on camera is at the core of Zoom and other online platforms; speaking to and seeing/ being seen by others is essential to deepening communication and connection. The intimacy of Satsang takes this even further.
However, if a video is made later from the Zoom session with the view of being posted on YouTube, there will be no display of faces or names.
We are sorry for the discomfort these additional guidelines may cause, but we thought it was necessary as the general trend these days is to participate in online spiritual events in a very anonymous way and with pseudonyms. This mode of communication is suitable for exchanges on social media, but not for a Satsang which, although it is online, is still a Satsang between spiritual friends.
We appreciate your kind understanding.
